Ottawa Valley Hunt Newsletter
January 2004
Happy New Year Everyone:
Here we are in the New Year – no complaints of rain lately! I just want to urge everyone to help us get the ‘04 Hunt Year off to a great start. Please be sure to attend the AGM February 1st @ 2:00 pm. This is your hunt and this is the time to get involved - express your view - ideas - concerns.
Robbie Burns is fast approaching, this is one of our big social events and a real classic, don’t miss it. But we do need to know numbers. Call Kay, Betty, or me and let us know that you’re coming. If you want to bring guests, please notify us ASAP as any spots available after members and spouses (or equivalents!) will be given on a first-come first-served basis up to our cut-off number. If you have not registered by January 17th with one of us, we’ll assume you’re not coming and use your spot for guests.
The Hunt Ball and Silent Auction are fast approaching (February 28th). This is The Biggie. Please bring lots and lots of guests.
As you know, the Silent Auction at the Hunt Ball is a major source of revenue for us. This year’s Silent Auction is being managed by Janet Strom with support from Joan Gauer, Liz Pearson and anyone else that they can press into service.
In previous auctions, we have done well with hunt prints, antique hunting paraphernalia, used but serviceable hunting gear, new tack and horse products, green fees at golf clubs, and entry fees to horse shows. We need items that will appeal to both large and small budgets.
You will be receiving a telephone call shortly to ask you for donations to the auction. We would also be grateful for contacts to stables or retailers who might be willing to donate items to the auction. The revenue will be directed to renovations to the clubhouse, so please give some thought to how you can help make the auction a bit success.
Any ideas and questions can be directed to Janet at 832-0869.
Thanks for your support, lets do it!
As this newsletter goes out I have just received word that we have lost another Hunt Stalwart in the passing of Bill Howe. We’ve all got many wonderful memories and stories, and he will be hugely missed by the Ottawa Valley Hunt. We send our condolences to Joan and Family.
Till next time,
Ted Thomas MF
HUNTSMAN CORNER.
First off, Thank you for my Christmas Bonus, it was much appreciated. I would also like to Thank Denis Cullen, Michael Deverell, and Pam Black for their continuous help. Jennifer Campbell has also been helping out since November. She is a definite asset to us.
With many trips to a physio and the Dr.’s it looks like my arm is repairing well, I am really looking forward to Hunting in the spring. As I am writing this, Brazen is giving birth to pups. The father of these puppies is Lynmouth who is from Exmoor.
Sincerely,
Your Huntsman Antony
