Ottawa Valley Hunt Newsletter
December 2003
Hello Everyone,
We’ve just completed the non-autumn season of 2003....The most abbreviated in my 26 years with the OVH. We began the fall season in great shape. Tony had the pack beautifully prepared and we were off and running. Then we lost two huntsman in rapid succession and shortly thereafter we lost the great autumn weather. We last hunted on the Wednesday following Thanksgiving. It’s been the most frustrating for Antony as our fall season is the main focus of his existence. Fortunately our membership has still made the best of it and had a lot of fun.
Sue & Jim Davies with Bill Irving put on a terrific Closing Hunt. Bills’ son David and Combo supplied music to a superb meal. Big Thanks to those guys.
Christmas is fast approaching as is our annual Tortiere and Children’s Christmas Party December 14th at 4:00 pm. Please call Joan Howe ASAP with names and interests of children 12 years and under. This is always a fun event.
Joan Gauer, Liz Pearson and Janet Strome made a clubhouse renovation presentation to the OVH Board on November 23rd. The scope of the proposed changes includes a complete renovation of the kitchen with new cabinets and counters, a double sink and improved lighting. New flooring would extend through the bar area. The team also obtained estimates for replacing the carpeting throughout the club as well as replacing the flooring in the washrooms.
The board supported the proposed renovations and costs. The work will give the clubhouse a needed facelift as well as improve the functionality of the kitchen. The success of last year’s Silent Auction provided the funds to begin the renovations but additional money from this year’s Auction will be needed to complete the work. Renovations are scheduled to begin on March first after the AGM and Valentine’s Day party.
At the request of the board, the renovation team of Joan, Liz and Janet will also be running the auction this year and the funds raised will go towards the clubhouse. The team will be contacting the membership shortly to ask for assistance and Silent Auction donations. Your support is needed to make this project a success.
So let’s make it the best year yet. Please get some top class items for us. This years committee is Janet Strome, Joan Gauer and Liz Pearson.
Bob Sulpher oversaw some kennels renovations, one benefit of which should be to reduce our hydro bill.
